The Dorset Democratic Deficit

Dorset County Council abolishes

As part of the ‘Reshaping your Councils’ project, the Dorset County Council has voted:

That the County Council do not wish the elections to take place in 2017, as the Council wishes to pursue Local Government reform, subject to the results of the public consultation”.

It looks like planned democratic elections are getting in the way of Dorset County Council’s democratic processes!

This council waited until after it was voted in before telling you that it would introduce unitary authorities in Dorset, without a referendum. It therefore has no proper mandate for it.

Now they are dictating that you are to lose your democratic right to vote next year! Did they ask your permission? Is this a national emergency that justifies such an action? The Conservative led Council, backed by the Liberal Democrats, has decided that they are far too important and too busy to bother themselves with mundane things like a programmed democratic election.

This is unconstitutional and undemocratic! Join us in fighting for your democratic right to have your say on the 4th May 2017.
